Nursery School Programs

Program

MCRC’s Nursery School program is a 2 ½ hour program designed to meet your child’s social, emotional, developmental and educational needs. The teachers are Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECE) and there is one RECE for each group of 8 children. Our programs are inclusive of all children and we work collaboratively with agencies that support children with special needs. MCRC’s Nursery School program is licensed and regulated by the provincial Ministry of Education.

Emergent Curriculum and Learning through Play

Throughout our Nursery School program, children are closely observed by program teachers and are given opportunities for learning based on their observed interests. We believe that a child should be an active participant in their learning and therefore our teachers develop projects around the emerging interests of the children in their group. Through these projects children and teachers work as a collaborative team learning by exploring and manipulating objects, asking questions, solving problems and performing experiments.

We believe that children should learn through play and that play is essential and fundamental to a child’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. Learning within our Nursery School program is made visible through observation and documentation. Teachers observe the children as they learn, take photographs, and document what children say as they learn. Our rooms are filled with evidence of children’s learning through play and discovery.

Schedule

Children attend mornings or afternoons from 9:00 am to 11:30 am or 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm.

The program operates on the following schedule:

  • Two days per week: Tuesday and Thursday morning or afternoon
  • Three days per week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning or afternoon

Parents may enrol their children for 5 am or pm days per week.

Snack Program

We provide a nutritious snack for children attending our Nursery School program based on Canada’s Food Guide. The snack menu is posted at all locations and includes fresh fruit, grains and protein. Our locations strive to be “peanut free zones” and we will gladly cater to identified allergies and religious food restrictions.
