Licensed Child Care Centres MCRC has two licensed child care centres where we offer a full time program for children from 18 months to 12 years of age as well as a 5 full day JK/SK program. Both of our Licensed Child Care Centres are Quality First participants. Quality First is a developmental model for quality improvement within Halton.
Toddler Program (18 months to 2 ½ years) The toddler staff provide experiences and a learning environment that is age appropriate for toddlers. The ratio in the room is 1 teacher to 5 toddlers. The room is designed with toddler size in mind. We provide many hands on experiences to assist children to explore their environment. There is a sleep period daily where each child has their own cot, sheet and a blanket. We encourage a team approach to care where teachers work closely with parents to ensure a smooth transition from home to centre.
Preschool (2 ½ to 3.8 years) The ratio in this room is 1 teacher to 8 children. Activities are based on the children’s interests. Our teachers meet the developmental goals by creating an environment that stimulates learning. The children have a daily rest period where they are encouraged to have a sleep on a cot. When children start to outgrow the need for a sleep, they are required, according to the Day Nurseries Act, to have a rest for half an hour. These children are provided with quiet activities such as reading, puzzles, etc. Through our Reggio approach, teachers and children work on projects to promote discovery and learning. You will be able to see your child’s learning, evident in the documentation around the classroom.
JK/SK (3.8 to 6 years of age) As children grow into the Kindergarten years, their interests also expand. Their projects give them the opportunity to continue experimenting with skills such as printing, literacy, math, science, art, and much more. Our teachers encourage these skills through their careful observation of the children and encourage in depth exploration with your child. They also continue to develop relationships with peers. The ratio in our JK/SK program is 1 teacher to 10 children.
